Today is the first day of my QUEST. A quest which I am sure that many of you out there not only have great experience in but also the recipes to help me succeed in the challenge I have set myself. My quest at first glance seems a piece of cake and easy to achieve yet still eludes me despite the hours of practice I have put in and the waistline sacrifices/selfless time my work colleague guinea pigs have used assessing my efforts over the years!

My quest is to find the perfect home baking to bring to work. I seek not only to amaze my work colleagues with my amateur skills but more importantly I wish to find the perfect sweet treat to make a hard day at work instantly melt away, no more monday morning blues. The type of cake that no matter how stressful the day becomes it still brings a smile to your face. No mean feet I hear you say but that is not enough for my perfect treat it also needs to make me not mind being another year older and with each cake mouthful make me wish the year away to the next birthday cake celebration. The humble chocolate bar or shop bought offerings have yet to fully succeed with either of these goals.

Over the years I have experimented with many different recipes for brownies, cakes, muffins, flapjacks, cookies, cupcakes and pies. Banoffee pie has always been a BIG hit, the type of delight that co workers never want you to resign from your job-no matter how bad you are at your job, how late you turn up to work or how many annoying habits you might have! However, no matter how delicious it might be the perfect work treat also needs to score high on a few other practicality counts. For me the ease of making, ease of eating, transportation to and storage at work all impact on my enjoyment of the tasty morsels. Sadly banoffee presents a few messy hurdles and is a wee bit tricky to eat without a plate.

This month I started a new job and have found many eager mouths to help me assess the sweet treats on offer on in a bid to me successfully achieving my quest. . . . . . So it’s now time to begin my quest and time to read my large collection of cookbooks and get baking.

I welcome any advice or recipes to try that fellow amateur or professional bakers feel will help me succeed with my yum scrum quest.
